Description
Creating and closing out improvement actions is the driving force behind a high-performing operations team. Actions are so important that the number of created and closed actions is often considered a proxy for the health of the MOS.
Each variance from the plan should have an action that targets the root cause, aiming to either permanently eliminate the variance or reduce its impact if removal isn’t possible.
The Action Log is used to capture and track all actions on site, along with assigned accountabilities, to ensure they are completed by the due date.
The Action Log should be the sole source of actions on-site and is managed by the Mine Manager’s Executive Assistant or a suitable delegate.
Actions should be designed to be completed within a month and typically do not require capital approval for implementation. Any actions that are larger in scope should be escalated as business improvement or capital projects
An action log should make it easy for each leader to raise and review their actions on a regular basis. It should not replace the Work Management System.
