Description
Creating a psychologically safe environment to hold your team leaders accountable for their area’s performance and motivating them to improve is a key responsibility of a department leader. The Department Weekly Review meeting provides a regular learning forum where the team focuses on:
- Reviewing the department’s actual performance compared to the plan for the past week.
- Understanding the root causes of any variances.
- Ensuring that key actions and projects to improve performance are identified and implemented on time.
- Looking ahead to the current week and month to identify and address any risks.
- Confirming plans for each process area.
Weekly Department Review meetings ensure that the department is being managed effectively, and that opportunities for improvement are identified and acted upon. Process superintendents should be prepared to explain the steps they are taking to recover from any variances and prevent them in the future.
The Department Manager should ask questions that encourage Superintendents to reflect on their area’s performance and think of ways to improve it moving forward.
