Description

The pre-start meeting is a short gathering to give all operators and trades the essential information they need for a safe and productive shift that achieves the plan.

The supervisor’s role is to ensure that the team understands the current conditions of the workplace, what has been completed, and what tasks are ahead. This will help the team start work quickly and meet their first activity targets.

The supervisor typically follows this process:

  • Start with safety, explaining any hazards present in the workplace.
  • Briefly review past performance, highlighting ways to improve safety or productivity.
  • Assign tasks to the team, checking for understanding regularly throughout the discussion.
  • Encourage the team to focus on having a safe and productive shift, emphasizing specific goals like hitting time-to-first-load or maintaining good communication.
  • Confirm understanding and plan to follow up with individual team members responsible for critical tasks early in the shift.
