Description
The “New Crew Briefing” ensures that all operators and trades have the necessary information to have a safe and productive swing.
Similar to a pre-start meeting, it is led by the supervisor, but typically involves significant contributions from the superintendent and relevant experts (such as safety officers, HR, managers, or technical services) to address any key topics.
The superintendent is responsible for organizing the content for each shift. The meeting typically covers the following points:
- Begin with a focus on safety, addressing any workplace hazards, using images of the workplace to put these in context.
- Briefly review past performance, highlighting areas for improvement in safety or productivity.
- Provide an overview of the weekly plan, supported by mud maps and images of the workplace that put upcoming tasks for the next few days into context for the team.
- Share updates from site experts or managers.
- Emphasize a specific focus or target for the swing, such as improving time to first load or fostering effective communication.
- Confirm that everyone understands the plan and arrange follow-ups with team members responsible for critical tasks.
